Yocklin weekly update – Jan 27

 In Uncategorized

Hello Families!

As always, we are crazy busy at school… lots of events and exciting activities brewing! Please see below for more information.

STEM Fest/ SCIENCE FAIR is this Saturday, February 1! Elementary students can wander through our Learning Celebration while upper grades are setting up their science fair activities. Demonstrations and science fair walkthroughs will begin at 10 AM. I am still looking for student volunteers to assist in a force and motion sort. They are just 30 minute blocks of time. Click here to sign up.

CAMP update – We will be in need of individually wrapped snacks and cases of bottled water for camp. Please let me know if you are able to donate! Snacks are kept in the teacher’s cabin and chaperones are able to come get them as needed throughout the day. Some ideas are Nearly Naked Popcorn, granola bars ( nut free), fruit snacks, chips, etc.

WRITING – I have made some drastic changes to how we are planning and organizing our writing. It is very different! It immediately helped in noticing complete sentence structure in individual writing and providing proof through examples or explaining which was lacking. I will keep you updated on our progress!

Please check the SPELLING  list page for this week’s list on the doubling rule. This particular rule is a HUGE stickler for us! Keep the vowel short by doubling the consonant before adding the suffix. Watch the syllables change from the root word to open syllables in words with long vowel sounds.

READING – novel studies continue. We are also incorporating Readworks assignments through our Google Classroom accounts.

MATH – We are working on Lowest common denominators and Greatest common factors in small groups.

TO DO:

  • join us at SCIENCE FAIR on Sat from 9-1. Visit sign up genius if you are able.
  • Donate snacks for camp
  • Get gussied up for PICTURE DAY Wed, Feb 5.
  • practice math fact fluency

Thank you all! As always, please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
